#welcomespring

This past weekend was our first glimpse of spring (even though, as I write this, it's hailing/sleeting/raining/snowing outside). We were supposed to get rain all weekend, so we welcomed the beautiful day we got on Saturday and were thankful that the rain we got yesterday was not snow!

Friday night, we did our usually dinner-date with my Dad. However, Cam decided to chug his milk and get sick. Again. This kid...I'm telling you! Sometimes, all he wants is milk and between the five adults sitting at the table, we didn't realize that the others had already given him milk, which caused an avalanche of milk, grapes and hot dogs....a beautiful combination coming back up, I tell ya!

So, we left dinner with about five Longhorn napkins and scooted on home. Thank goodness for wonderful fathers who pick up the tab (and the dirty looks from the other tables).

Saturday morning, when the sunlight entered our windows, we were out the door as quickly as possible! A sunny Saturday morning always calls for coffee and a car wash, right? This was the first time Cam really enjoyed the car wash...he's always been too young/not aware to take it all in. He loved it!

Saturday afternoon, we hit the GAP outlet and scored MORE clothes for Cam's spring/summer wardrobe! Seriously, I wish I could renew my wardrobe every season! He will be one stylin little boy...even Chad had fun shopping for him! (PS I stopped by JCrew to stock on my go-to shorts, and they're material is so cheap this year. Has anyone else noticed that? I left empty-handed and heavy-hearted.)

Sunday, it rained all day, which gave us the perfect excuse to watch Toy Story 3 (for the 3829759348th time) and go to Tumble Tikes to get out some energy!

I am always THAT mom that has her phone out to take pictures...I decided to BE there this time, hence the lack of photos.

Post-nap, Cam was my shopping buddy as we hit Trader Joe's, Whole Foods then our regular grocery store...TJs always hits the spot for snacks, beer and flowers. Whole Foods sucks. Sorry. I know their produce, cheese and meats are SO much better than everywhere else, but they're so expensive!! $3 for a head of lettuce? $6 for a gallon of milk? Come on...

Chillin at Whole Foods...he was the best shopping buddy ever!

We also indulged in our favorite beer and some delicious steaks.

#welcomespring

I hope you all had a great weekend!! I am so glad that we are finally joining most of you with the beautiful weekend days! I am tired of being jealous of tank tops and picnics. ;)

PS I am joining Elizabeth today to talk about being a BOY mom...my favorite job in the entire world!!

GAP does it again...Toddler Boy Finds

I am slightly obsessed with GAP's spring/summer line for Toddler Boys...seriously, check out these pieces. There's such a good mix of classics (polos and khakis) with a good flair of the 70's/California and preppy thrown in here and there. I've already placed numerous orders for Cam and some of the pieces have since sold out including bright orange pants and super-70's t-shirt...I'm glad I got them when I did!!

GAP spring 2014

I mean, come on...how can you resist that v-neck, those shades and the all-American plaid shorts? You can throw any color shirt with those and have an outfit! (They were a staple in Cam's wardrobe last summer, so they were #1 on my list this year.)

Chad has those red shorts, so now Cam can match him. And there's no way our little Irish man is getting burnt with this awesome long-sleeve rash guard!

The colorblock shorts were a no-brainer, and the wave t-shirt, polo and button-ups are essentials for the summer.

Linen pants are a-dorable on anyone and those blue/gray pants are perfect for the spring and summer! (These are the ones we got in orange, too!) How can you go wrong?

GAP always has good/stylish stuff for little ones, but I really think they hit the nail on the head this season! PLUS, they always have a discount online, so you never have to pay full price.

Now, if only the snow would melt and the sun would come out, we could try out some of these shorts and t-shirts!! I can't wait!!

Our Vermont Weekend

We decided to get out of town and go on a mini-vacation this past weekend. We booked a hotel in Burlington, Vermont, and had the best time! Cam was an amazing traveler, and we got to eat, drink and shop...I'd call that a successful weekend!

Thank goodness for iPads and Toy Story 3 on four-hour car rides!

Our big boy sitting in the booth...really? Are you sure you don't need a high chair anymore?

Mommy and Daddy enjoyed some delicious food and beer at The Farmhouse Tap & Grill. We loved it so much, we went back for dinner!

Cam did not mind the amenities of of the hotel room...we have decided that our new bedroom will have a king bed and a jet-tub. The amount of bubbles that thing produced was insane.

Cam was in the tub for so long, his skin turned bright red because of the heat! PS He slept for 13 hours after this....just sayin....

All of the bubbles we had to take out of the bath so Cam didn't suffocate in them!

Our beautiful ride home...we will be back, Burlington!

How was your weekend? I feel refreshed and renewed after just two days away!! Why don't we do this more often??

5 on Friday

I have been totally MIA lately, but I have a few fun updates to share with you, so I am joining these lovely ladies for Five on Friday.

1) I signed up for my first ever race: a 5k on Mother's Day put on by our local Minor League Baseball Team. I have started to "train" by doing an accelerated C25K program. I am quite proud of my progress and still have almost two months to go. :)

Slugger (the mascot) and his mom...too cute

2) Another house renovation update: We have no walls, windows, roof or floor on 1/3 of the house! They are rebuilding this section to make it more secure and to be able to hold more weight since we are adding a third floor to that section. I love seeing progress! We are also thisclose to getting our building permit, timeline and final budget...let's get things moving along!!

3) I have started to see a chiropractor in hopes of getting some sinus relief. My allergies have always been a major burden ever since I was little. I am allergic to so many indoor and outdoor elements as well as animals, all of which are hard to avoid! I have a deviated septum from a broken nose injury in college, which has only made my symptoms worse. My doctor suggested surgery, so I am hoping that I can avoid that by some chiropractic work. Have you had any success with acupuncture or chiropracty for sinus relief?

4) March is endometriosis month! I don't think I ever shared this, but I had surgery back in October to remove some endometriosis. I was pain-free almost immediately and a lot of other symptoms have subsided. Thank goodness! The procedure wasn't bad, but the recovery was a little long...I will probably have to do it again in ten years or so, but it's so worth it to relieve the pain!

5) We are off to Burlington, VT, this weekend! I have lived in New England for most of my life but have never been to Vermont (except driving through it to get to Canada)! We are so excited to just get away and explore this quaint little town...I'm fairly sure some good beer and food will be consumed, too. :) Any tips for staying in a hotel room with a little one? We've traveled, but always had another "room" to go to after Cam goes to sleep...I'm fairly sure we don't want to sit in the dark for an hour while he dozes off!! Wine in the hallway, anyone??

Happy Weekend, friends!!

It's the Little Things...like stopping by to say hi!

I have been 100% absent from this little blog.
This is the first time that I have really felt like I have too much to do: two jobs, Cameron, Chad, doctors, conferences, the house and working out 4-5 times a week.

I know there are other moms with WAY more to do than me, but it's been a lot for me to handle.

My day usually consists of work then my second job until I meet Chad at the gym when he gets done working then to my dad's to get Cam.

By the time we get home, it's 6:45 and too late for a bath. We try to get in as many cuddles as possible with Cam before putting him down 30 minutes later, but it's just not enough.

Once he's in bed, we have to shower, eat, do whatever chores need to be done then sit down together.

There's not enough time.

We have been really good about working out consistently, but it's getting in the way. It's a commitment that we don't have time for, but we're making it happen.

The second job takes time, but we need the money.

Sure, we could do all of our chores on the weekends, but we have been enjoying those two days together so much that we don't want to carve out a few hours to do laundry, clean the bathroom and prep lunches for the week.

So, here's me saying, "HI!" to you all...I've been reading and keeping up to date as much as possible, but I just haven't had time to STOP and write. I am working on my Friday post with some fun updates, but there's not time for much more than that.

Happy Wednesday, Friends!

Crock Pot Pulled Pork

Our weekend was pretty uneventful since it started with Cam leaving day care with a fever of 102*.

We relaxed on Friday night then snuck out for a dinner date after Cam fell asleep on Friday. Thank goodness for LouLou! We went to Bueno Loco and dined on some (not-on-our-diet) delicious Mexican and yummy cocktails and wine.

Saturday, we did a whole lotta nothing then finally ventured out to the gym then to dinner with my Dad.  Cam was still not 100%, so it wasn't a late night, but I think we were all glad to get out.

Sunday, we got Cam's hair cut, went to the gym (We are doing well!), grabbed some lunch then headed back home for a nap. Maybe it was the time change. Maybe it was his cold. Whatever the reason, Cam wouldn't nap. So, I put him back in the car and headed to the mall in hopes that he would sleep in the stroller. He did...for about 15 minutes. Needless to say, he was in bed at 7:00 (which would have been 6:00 on Saturday) and slept until 6:15. We all needed the sleep! Now I am feeling not-so-hot, so let's hope this bug stays away from me.

What are you doing to me, lady??

I did want to share this recipe below because it is SO EASY. So easy. If you love pulled pork, you will love this. We added some crushed red pepper and vinegar at the end to give it a little southern flair, but you can do whatever you want! We used a pork tenderloin to cut down on the fat, and it was still so tender and delicious.

I originally got this recipe from Colleen...she shares the best recipes!
Minus the bun, Add a salad and cole slaw
(this is a bit of a cheat because of the soda, but that's ok with us!)

Do you have any healthy, easy recipes to share? Please!

Have a great week!!!

5 on Friday: Lent, March, Baby #2 and Reno Updates

1) Lent
I grew up Catholic and am still a Christian...we haven't found a "home"church yet, but I really want to. I want to belong to that community again, but I really want to find my relationship with God first. For Lent this year, I was going to give up Facebook or wine or something silly like that (although it's great to sacrifice anything), but I decided to join Natasha and Colleen and sacrifice spending: Target runs, Starbucks and GAP.com purchases will no longer exist until Easter. I want to focus on what I have and not "things" to fill my space. I am also going to get rid of STUFF. Donate. Sell. Trash. There are so many people with nothing that it seems silly to me that I have four pairs of black flats. (Although, they are all for different outfits, but I digress.) So, I will spend my time at the Children's Museum with Cam, reading a book (that I already have) by the fire or watching a movie with Chad. I want to appreciate what I have instead of wishing for things I don't.

2) Baby #2
Is on it's way. PSYCH. But, I have been thinking a lot about adding another person to our family and what that would mean. I know that everyone with one child can't imagine adding another person to the mix (How can you love TWO people like this? How are you going to manage everything?), but I can't wait. After seeing all of you lovely ladies welcome Baby #2 (or numbers 2 and 3 at the same time), I cannot wait. I can't wait for the bond. I can't wait for Cam to be a big brother. I can't wait to snuggle a newborn again. I can't wait. But I will. No rush!

3) March

There aren't many things I DON'T like about March. There's St Patrick's Day, warmer temperatures and endless basketball!! I am in heaven. I think March may be my 3rd favorite month after July and December.

Throwback to last year: Those cheeks. Those two teeth. That hair. I just fell in love all over again!

4) Reno Update:
The section that we are tearing down to rebuild is almost gone! There is no roof, no walls and no windows...just the little bit of walls left! I love seeing progress!

5) This is so last weekend, but my high school won the Girls' State Championship in basketball. We got to see them win last year and this year, and it's still just as exciting! When I was in high school, we were 1-17 my first two years then lost in the state championship my junior and senior year. Quite a change to where they are now, winning four state championships in a row!

Happy Weekend!!

It's the little things....like dinner and wine

Linking up with Jess and Ashley has quickly become one of my favorite posts to write each week. I love finding that ONE thing that has made me smile - sometimes it's Cam, sometimes it's Chad, sometime's it's ME time.

This week, the little thing that made me smile is Chad. And his appreciate for me as a mother, wife and full-time worker (with a 2nd job). Sometimes, I get the look to just sit while he prepares dinner, pours some wine then cleans up! Seriously...I don't have to do a single thing some nights, and I love it. I know that I could do this every night, but I get joy in doing things for my family. I love to help him in the kitchen (even though I'm the worst chef in the world) or do laundry while he's cooking or prepare lunches for the next day, but sometimes it's nice to just sit and watch cartoons with Cam.

And when dinner is ready and it looks like this, I am even more grateful.

Chicken Milanese with brussel sprouts

And when there's delicious wine to go with it, I am glorious heaven.

I hope you all are having a wonderful week!! We are getting MORE snow today, and I am O.V.E.R. it. I really try not to complain, but seriously...it's March, and I can't see even the tiniest piece of grass.

Cameron: 20 Months

I always say that "this" stage is my favorite, but this month (the last half of it, anyways) has been a little different. You're defiant. You're stubborn. You're learning. I am learning. Again. I'm learning how to listen to you. I'm learning how to anticipate. I'm learning how to just let you try something and fail, get frustrated and communicate your needs. I'm learning - thank you for being patient with me, sweet baby. (PS I both Mom's on Call ordered and Happiest Toddler on my bookshelf...I know what I'll be reading tonight!)

Teeth: 16 still...waiting for those molars!

Diapers: 5
Pants: 18-24 months mostly
Tops: 18-24 months
Shoes: 7

Sleep: You go down right around 7 each night and usually go to sleep with no issues...most of the time you chatter to yourself for about 30 minutes before finally going to sleep. You wake around 5:45 - 6:00 most mornings, and we still cuddle on the couch until about 6:30. It's my favorite part of the day. You usually nap from about 12:30 - 2:30, but have had some days where you fight a nap as long as you can...or just don't nap! (Thankfully, that's only happened once or twice.)

Food: You are the pickiest eater!! You love mac and cheese, hot dogs and anything with carbs: chips, crackers, cookies, Pirate Booty, goldfish, etc...you like green beans about every other time. You do love fruit, thankfully. You also love any kind of dairy: milk, yogurt, cheese...you just don't eat a lot!

Loves: Putting things in the trash, watching Toy Story 1, 2 or 3, baths, hats, shoes (STILL), and your pacifier...that darn thing. We have gotten it down to mainly just the car and sleeping, but there are times that you find one in your bin of toys (yuck) and refuse to give it up. I'm learning which battles to fight and when, and this is one that I give up on sometimes. You are obsessed with Woody...we even had to make him a "bed" so he goes to sleep when you do and it's not a battle. I pay myself on the back on this one...hehe.

Hates: Getting your diaper changed. Most things when you're tired, especially getting in the car seat. You either turn into a stiff plank or a piece of cooked spaghetti...haha!!

Toys: Balls. Cars. Stuffed animals. Your vacuum. Woody. Trucks.

Social: We start a music class today and have been getting to a lot of local play areas: Children's Museum, Tumble Tikes, Peekaboo...it's too darn cold to be outside! We've had a few play dates (and had to cancel a few because of your nap-strikes) and have one coming up this weekend that I am so excited for with my old high school basketball teammates! We have ventured to a few basketball games, and you do not like being confined - I think we've seen a preview of what flying will be like with you this summer!

You are a boy through-and-through, and I still love it. I love how "rough" you are but then turn into a total love when we cuddle. I love that you still me need me for so much more than you think you do, but you're trying to be independent. I love that you get yourself "stuck" between the couch cushions and ask me for "help, please, momma, stuck." I love that every time you fall, you say, "ok?" so I ask you if you're ok...then you tell me "yep." You kill me. I adore you!

Okay, seriously...I am about to starting keeping track of your age by YEARS not months. Why is this happening to me?? Where did my baby go?? #hellobabyfever
