New Blog

Hi, strangers!!! I have been so MIA from the blog world for some time (although I have been following along with your lives from afar), but have been itching to come back. I really miss documenting Cameron and our lives and feel like this is the best to do that.

One big piece of news is that we got MARRIED!! We finally made if official, so with my new last name came a new email address and a new blog. I loved my Strawberry Swing name (It was our wedding song!), but I respect another blogger too much to have the same name. So, I am back to Scott Family of Maine - sound familiar? I promise this is the last switch. ;) It's a new link, though, so please save it! I have started to add some of you to my reading list under my new email, and I can't wait to reconnect!!

Happy August!! I hope you enjoy the last few weeks of summer. :)

PS I am looking for an awesome blog designer to give my new page some love...please leave tips if you have them!!

Super Babies

I have been completely absent from the blog-world, but I had to write today. I have so much heaviness on my heart for these families...physical pain.

If you have not heard of Super Teddy and Ryan, grab some tissues, because I can't even THINK about these two boys and their families without tearing up.

It's almost Mother's Day, and these two moms don't have a son to hold this Sunday. Or any day. They've both laid their boys to rest WAY too knew the time would come soon and one thought she had 40 more years.

Sweet Teddy had "kinky hair syndrome" or Menkes Syndrome which causes a copper-deficiency in the body. Teddy just turned one. ONE. Ahhhhh, I want to scream thinking about the pain his family is feeling now.

Ryan was being a little boy...he ran after his frisbee and got struck by a truck. In an instant. Can you imagine? I cannot fathom that moment. That pain. That extreme weight on your heart. I have never experienced anything like this, but I can only imagine turning around to the sound of screeching tires and seeing your baby...the human you made...lying helpless on the ground. I would die, too.

So today, my Superhero, Cam, is thinking of both of these boys by wearing his red cape. Red for Ryan. Cape for Teddy. I pray to the Lord to keep all of our superhero babies safe and with us much longer than we are here. They deserve that. Every child deserves that. This is just not fair....

So naive to the world and the pain that comes along with it. I hope I have you forever, baby.

Five on Friday: Long Overdue

What have we been up to? Let me fill you in a bit...

We moved out of our house on April 12 and have been living in a furnished apartment on the same street that we will be living on when the renovations are done! We have the luxury of not having to have our stuff out of the house until May 10, so I have been able to go through everything and sort, clean, donate, store everything properly. Everyone should have a month to move out of their house. It's so refreshing to know things are going where they belong! Needless to say, we will be having a HUGE yard sale very soon!

Our 650 sq ft apartment until the fall!

My best friend came into town for a few days, and I FINALLY got to meet baby Brooklyn! I LOVE HER. She's the BEST baby ever and so sweet!!

We had a fantastic Easter - low key, delicious food and family. A perfect combination!

Full recap soon? Maybe...

I've won two giveaways recently! I won $25 to Pink Blush Maternity from Mateya, and NO, I am not pregnant, but I do hope to be again one day! ;) They're stuff is adorable...I can't wait to start shopping!

I also won a giveaway from Becky for some Roden & Fields products. Now, if you know me, you know I am an Arbonne girl, but that doesn't mean I don't try other products! Needless to say, I was so excited to try this line that everyone is raving about! They did not disappoint...I have already pampered myself with one facial (micro-dermabrasion paste, night renewing serum and lip renewing serum - my favorite) and can't wait to try the sunless tan foam!

It's finally spring in Maine. That means playgrounds, outdoor running (to train for my 5k on Mother's Day) and less computer/tv time!

What have you been up to? I have been keeping up (barely) and love seeing you all on Instagram!!

5 on Friday: Updates, Moving and Autism Awareness

I have not seen Frozen. They were playing the soundtrack at Tumble Tikes on Sunday, and I had never heard a single song. I have "heard" of Let It Go, but that's it. I would blame it on being a "boy" mom, but, in reality, it's because Cameron won't watch any movie except Toy Story. No lie.

I am still doing #365daysofcameron, but I have not been posting them on here, too. #aintnobodygottimeforthat! Is anyone else still on board? I know I see a few here and there...

I just started taking Bee Pollen...anyone else try this? It's supposed to help with my allergies and give me a natural boost in the morning! I am willing to try ANYTHING!

We are MOVING next weekend...we are currently renting from the lady who bought our house, and she has decided that she's ready to move in. We will live in a 650 sq ft apartment for about six months...BUT, it's across the street from a phat playground and right on a walking path, so we will be all set! I honestly can't wait. And, I love purging when we move/pack, so this is like heaven for me!!

It's Autism Awareness Month! As a Special Education Teacher, this is such a special month for us to celebrate and bring awareness to Autism. It's such a mystery, but produces some of the most amazing people. I just got my annual Autism bracelet from Stella & Dot and can't wait to get it in the mail next week!

We have some fun plans this weekend...a few birthday celebrations (including my dad's), some play dates and lots of packing!

Happy Friday!

Cameron: 21 Months

These monthly updates are getting harder and harder because the time is going by so quickly! So much is still changing each month, though, so I will continue to write them. :)

You call me "Mom." Not Momma or Mommy, but Mom. Seriously? Do you need to borrow the keys to the car, too? Geez...I was hoping to be Momma for just a little longer!

You are talking so much...sometimes, you try to put a full sentence together and it just comes out as rambling, but we love it. It creates some good laughs for us!

You still loooove Toy Story, Buzz and Woody...they keep your attention for as long as we need (including hours when we are sick). We've tried a few other movies, but to no avail. Toy Story has your heart attention.

You have had some really hard moments and some really super sweet moments - sometimes you just tag along with no questions: put on your jacket and hat, get in the car seat and smile. Other times, it's a full-on wrestling match to do any of the above. I cannot wait for warmer temps so we don't have to GO somewhere for entertainment!

You love to say BYE to people and THANK YOU when they do's adorable. You also say PLEASE when we ask if you want something. I am loving your manners, little man!

You love cheeseburgers. Your dinner list has now grown to: mac & cheese, hot dogs, turkey dogs, meatballs, pasta and cheeseburgers.

You are sleeping so well. You go down around 7:15 and sleep until about 6:15. The time change was WONDERFUL for us because you are still waking up at the same time (You were waking up at 5:15), but you go down an hour earlier! We are loving it. You are still doing one nap from about 12:30 - 2:00 or so...if you are in the car, you usually sleep longer.

We traveled to Burlington, VT, for a family weekend away and it was awesome. You were awesome. You adjusted well, slept well and ate well. I love our family.

You are obsessed with "blankies." You call towels blankies and have to take your own (real blankie) to and from bed with you each night and morning...we have two identical blankets (one brown and one blue) and you choose which color you want each night. I think you would take them both, if we let you, but Momma needs some warmth, too!!

You are wearing 18 - 24 month pants, 18-24/2T shirts and 2T pajamas. Your shoes are size 7 and your diapers are a size 5. You still don't have any molars; I'm really ok with you never getting them!! :)

We are moving into temporary, furnished housing next week, which has made us pack very lightly. I have about ten books and ten toys packed for really don't play with a lot anymore, so I think you will be fine. You prefer empty water bottles, cotton balls and socks over any of your toys. We will also be living across from a playground and on a walking path, so being indoors will be very limited!

You are my best friend. My little buddy. Your daddy and I still cannot get over the fact that God gave you to us. You are beautiful. You are sooooo sweet. You love to give kisses and hugs. You are amazing. Still.

patient, but not impressed, with the hair cut

Best Buddies

Toy Story obsession continues....

Total Ham...see below

I love you, Cam. Thank you for making our lives happier, better and more full of love than we could have ever imagined!

This past weekend was our first glimpse of spring (even though, as I write this, it's hailing/sleeting/raining/snowing outside). We were supposed to get rain all weekend, so we welcomed the beautiful day we got on Saturday and were thankful that the rain we got yesterday was not snow!

Friday night, we did our usually dinner-date with my Dad. However, Cam decided to chug his milk and get sick. Again. This kid...I'm telling you! Sometimes, all he wants is milk and between the five adults sitting at the table, we didn't realize that the others had already given him milk, which caused an avalanche of milk, grapes and hot dogs....a beautiful combination coming back up, I tell ya!

So, we left dinner with about five Longhorn napkins and scooted on home. Thank goodness for wonderful fathers who pick up the tab (and the dirty looks from the other tables).

Saturday morning, when the sunlight entered our windows, we were out the door as quickly as possible! A sunny Saturday morning always calls for coffee and a car wash, right? This was the first time Cam really enjoyed the car wash...he's always been too young/not aware to take it all in. He loved it!

Saturday afternoon, we hit the GAP outlet and scored MORE clothes for Cam's spring/summer wardrobe! Seriously, I wish I could renew my wardrobe every season! He will be one stylin little boy...even Chad had fun shopping for him! (PS I stopped by JCrew to stock on my go-to shorts, and they're material is so cheap this year. Has anyone else noticed that? I left empty-handed and heavy-hearted.)

Sunday, it rained all day, which gave us the perfect excuse to watch Toy Story 3 (for the 3829759348th time) and go to Tumble Tikes to get out some energy!

I am always THAT mom that has her phone out to take pictures...I decided to BE there this time, hence the lack of photos.

Post-nap, Cam was my shopping buddy as we hit Trader Joe's, Whole Foods then our regular grocery store...TJs always hits the spot for snacks, beer and flowers. Whole Foods sucks. Sorry. I know their produce, cheese and meats are SO much better than everywhere else, but they're so expensive!! $3 for a head of lettuce? $6 for a gallon of milk? Come on...

Chillin at Whole Foods...he was the best shopping buddy ever!

We also indulged in our favorite beer and some delicious steaks.

I hope you all had a great weekend!! I am so glad that we are finally joining most of you with the beautiful weekend days! I am tired of being jealous of tank tops and picnics. ;)

PS I am joining Elizabeth today to talk about being a BOY favorite job in the entire world!!

GAP does it again...Toddler Boy Finds

I am slightly obsessed with GAP's spring/summer line for Toddler Boys...seriously, check out these pieces. There's such a good mix of classics (polos and khakis) with a good flair of the 70's/California and preppy thrown in here and there. I've already placed numerous orders for Cam and some of the pieces have since sold out including bright orange pants and super-70's t-shirt...I'm glad I got them when I did!!

GAP spring 2014

I mean, come can you resist that v-neck, those shades and the all-American plaid shorts? You can throw any color shirt with those and have an outfit! (They were a staple in Cam's wardrobe last summer, so they were #1 on my list this year.)

Chad has those red shorts, so now Cam can match him. And there's no way our little Irish man is getting burnt with this awesome long-sleeve rash guard!

The colorblock shorts were a no-brainer, and the wave t-shirt, polo and button-ups are essentials for the summer.

Linen pants are a-dorable on anyone and those blue/gray pants are perfect for the spring and summer! (These are the ones we got in orange, too!) How can you go wrong?

GAP always has good/stylish stuff for little ones, but I really think they hit the nail on the head this season! PLUS, they always have a discount online, so you never have to pay full price.

Now, if only the snow would melt and the sun would come out, we could try out some of these shorts and t-shirts!! I can't wait!!

Our Vermont Weekend

We decided to get out of town and go on a mini-vacation this past weekend. We booked a hotel in Burlington, Vermont, and had the best time! Cam was an amazing traveler, and we got to eat, drink and shop...I'd call that a successful weekend!

Thank goodness for iPads and Toy Story 3 on four-hour car rides!

Our big boy sitting in the booth...really? Are you sure you don't need a high chair anymore?

Mommy and Daddy enjoyed some delicious food and beer at The Farmhouse Tap & Grill. We loved it so much, we went back for dinner!

Cam did not mind the amenities of of the hotel room...we have decided that our new bedroom will have a king bed and a jet-tub. The amount of bubbles that thing produced was insane.

Cam was in the tub for so long, his skin turned bright red because of the heat! PS He slept for 13 hours after this....just sayin....

All of the bubbles we had to take out of the bath so Cam didn't suffocate in them!

Our beautiful ride home...we will be back, Burlington!

How was your weekend? I feel refreshed and renewed after just two days away!! Why don't we do this more often??

5 on Friday

I have been totally MIA lately, but I have a few fun updates to share with you, so I am joining these lovely ladies for Five on Friday.

1) I signed up for my first ever race: a 5k on Mother's Day put on by our local Minor League Baseball Team. I have started to "train" by doing an accelerated C25K program. I am quite proud of my progress and still have almost two months to go. :)

Slugger (the mascot) and his mom...too cute

2) Another house renovation update: We have no walls, windows, roof or floor on 1/3 of the house! They are rebuilding this section to make it more secure and to be able to hold more weight since we are adding a third floor to that section. I love seeing progress! We are also thisclose to getting our building permit, timeline and final budget...let's get things moving along!!

3) I have started to see a chiropractor in hopes of getting some sinus relief. My allergies have always been a major burden ever since I was little. I am allergic to so many indoor and outdoor elements as well as animals, all of which are hard to avoid! I have a deviated septum from a broken nose injury in college, which has only made my symptoms worse. My doctor suggested surgery, so I am hoping that I can avoid that by some chiropractic work. Have you had any success with acupuncture or chiropracty for sinus relief?

4) March is endometriosis month! I don't think I ever shared this, but I had surgery back in October to remove some endometriosis. I was pain-free almost immediately and a lot of other symptoms have subsided. Thank goodness! The procedure wasn't bad, but the recovery was a little long...I will probably have to do it again in ten years or so, but it's so worth it to relieve the pain!

5) We are off to Burlington, VT, this weekend! I have lived in New England for most of my life but have never been to Vermont (except driving through it to get to Canada)! We are so excited to just get away and explore this quaint little town...I'm fairly sure some good beer and food will be consumed, too. :) Any tips for staying in a hotel room with a little one? We've traveled, but always had another "room" to go to after Cam goes to sleep...I'm fairly sure we don't want to sit in the dark for an hour while he dozes off!! Wine in the hallway, anyone??

Happy Weekend, friends!!

It's the Little stopping by to say hi!

I have been 100% absent from this little blog.
This is the first time that I have really felt like I have too much to do: two jobs, Cameron, Chad, doctors, conferences, the house and working out 4-5 times a week.

I know there are other moms with WAY more to do than me, but it's been a lot for me to handle.

My day usually consists of work then my second job until I meet Chad at the gym when he gets done working then to my dad's to get Cam.

By the time we get home, it's 6:45 and too late for a bath. We try to get in as many cuddles as possible with Cam before putting him down 30 minutes later, but it's just not enough.

Once he's in bed, we have to shower, eat, do whatever chores need to be done then sit down together.

There's not enough time.

We have been really good about working out consistently, but it's getting in the way. It's a commitment that we don't have time for, but we're making it happen.

The second job takes time, but we need the money.

Sure, we could do all of our chores on the weekends, but we have been enjoying those two days together so much that we don't want to carve out a few hours to do laundry, clean the bathroom and prep lunches for the week.

So, here's me saying, "HI!" to you all...I've been reading and keeping up to date as much as possible, but I just haven't had time to STOP and write. I am working on my Friday post with some fun updates, but there's not time for much more than that.

Happy Wednesday, Friends!

Crock Pot Pulled Pork

Our weekend was pretty uneventful since it started with Cam leaving day care with a fever of 102*.

We relaxed on Friday night then snuck out for a dinner date after Cam fell asleep on Friday. Thank goodness for LouLou! We went to Bueno Loco and dined on some (not-on-our-diet) delicious Mexican and yummy cocktails and wine.

Saturday, we did a whole lotta nothing then finally ventured out to the gym then to dinner with my Dad.  Cam was still not 100%, so it wasn't a late night, but I think we were all glad to get out.

Sunday, we got Cam's hair cut, went to the gym (We are doing well!), grabbed some lunch then headed back home for a nap. Maybe it was the time change. Maybe it was his cold. Whatever the reason, Cam wouldn't nap. So, I put him back in the car and headed to the mall in hopes that he would sleep in the stroller. He did...for about 15 minutes. Needless to say, he was in bed at 7:00 (which would have been 6:00 on Saturday) and slept until 6:15. We all needed the sleep! Now I am feeling not-so-hot, so let's hope this bug stays away from me.

What are you doing to me, lady??

I did want to share this recipe below because it is SO EASY. So easy. If you love pulled pork, you will love this. We added some crushed red pepper and vinegar at the end to give it a little southern flair, but you can do whatever you want! We used a pork tenderloin to cut down on the fat, and it was still so tender and delicious.

I originally got this recipe from Colleen...she shares the best recipes!
Minus the bun, Add a salad and cole slaw
(this is a bit of a cheat because of the soda, but that's ok with us!)

Do you have any healthy, easy recipes to share? Please!

Have a great week!!!
