Entertaining a Baby

How do you entertain a 7.5 month old baby who can't quite move on his own, but doesn't want to sit still?

Dump out all of his toys on his lap

Let him explore (with your direct supervision)

Give him any-and-everything he can put in his mouth...each object lasts for about 7 seconds.

Put him in his cruiser...he is a PRO at getting around in this thing!

Put him in a laundry basket with some toys...

Give him anything that lights up, makes noises, crunches or moves

This photo dump is brought to you by my iPhone, a handsome little man named Cameron and me. :)

The Dash

I just came across the poem Dash by Linda Ellis.
If this doesn't move you, I'm not sure what will...

I read of a man who stood to speak
at the funeral of a friend.
He referred to the dates on her tombstone,
from the beginning…to the end.
He noted that first came the date of her birth
and spoke of the following date with tears,
but he said what mattered most of allwas the dash between those years.
For that dash represents all the time
that she spent alive on earth.
And now only those who loved her
know what that little line is worth.
For it matters not, how much we own,
the cars…the house…the cash.
What matters is how we live and love
and how we spend our dash.
So, think about this long and hard.
Are there things you’d like to change?
For you never know how much time is left
that can still be rearranged.
If we could just slow down enough
to consider what’s true and real
and always try to understand
the way other people feel.
And be less quick to anger
and show appreciation more
and love the people in our lives
like we’ve never loved before.
If we treat each other with respectand more often wear a smile, remembering that this special dashmight only last a little while.
So, when your eulogy is being read,
with your life’s actions to rehash…
would you be proud of the things they say
about how you spent YOUR dash?

How will you spend YOUR dash?

St Patrick's Day Babies

I am an Irish girl through-and-through, and we are so lucky to have a little Irish man joining us to celebrate this year! Cameron is Irish for "crooked nose!"

Look at these adorable pieces I found online...I can't wait to deck him out in green and show him how to celebrate St Patrick's Day!!

February 13 vs February 25

*I started this post on February 13 and never finished it. I am leaving the originals, but updating in red.

This blog has really taken a back burner lately - we've all been sick, Cameron is growing like a weed and I am more interested in focusing on my family and my new business. I have decided to not blog, but to document our life. I want to be able to look back on this as my "journal" and as a supplement (mostly for pictures) to Cameron's baby book.

However, I don't want to totally diminish this blog...there are constantly moments that I want to write something, record something, remember something.

Cameron is starting to get on all fours and rock back and forth. He then proceeds to fall flat on his tummy. :) I know he is just dying to crawl and move on his own, but he can't yet! He did get a walker/jumper from our neighbor that he absolutely loves, and he is learning how to maneuver in it. He's crawling!!! We went to visit our friends on Saturday, and he crawled!! When we got home, we put him on the floor again and got a great video. He's now on the move and we cannot take our eyes off him, even for a second!

He is very clingy lately...he loves to be held and gets fussy when we put him down. We are trying not to spoil him, but we don't want to ignore his needs, either! (And, who doesn't love some cuddle time with a 7 month old ham?!) The day after I wrote this, I had to go pick him up from day care because he had a fever. He continued to be sick all weekend - hence, the clingy-ness! Poor baby just slept all weekend and wanted to be held.

We got a HUGE snow storm last week that dumped 32" on us!! It was the biggest storm in the history of Portland. We got another storm yesterday that dropped around 8". And there is another storm coming on Wednesday. Spring anyone?

My mom's mom is in a nursing home and everyone is saying goodbye to her before she passes on. I feel weird writing that statement so generically, but she has never been a part of my life. My mom's grandmother raised her and was always my "Nana." I know it's very weird for my mom to be experiencing this loss, and I honestly don't know how to support her. She passed away on February 20th. Mom got to say goodbye to her, and they are doing a graveside service in the spring.

I am loving my Arbonne business. I have gotten to share their products with a lot of my friends and will be doing a party at my house next week. If you haven't tried their products, you should. I love their face wash and their health products (protein shakes, fit chews, fizz drinks, etc). I am doing their 30-day detox and I feel amazing and I am losing weight!! My goal in doing the detox wasn't to lose weight, but to feel healthier and have more energy. So far, it's working! I am still loving my Arbonne products and business. The best part is educating other people about what you are putting in/on your body. I have recently contacted a couple of my favorite bloggers about doing a product review, so you can look for those during March! I love sharing our products!!!

Chad and I have started exploring the process of building a house!!! Our dream home is just a little more than our budget, so we are trying to figure out a plan. Should we build a smaller house now or buy a smaller house and use the equity from that as a down payment in a few years to build our dream house? I need to start selling more Arbonne! ;) We are still looking at developments, but have looked at some houses, too. The housing market in Maine sucks so it's going to take us awhile to find something we love in our price range. We did find a development in Cumberland that's in our price range, but doesn't include a garage...oy vey!

That's all for now. This post is SUPER boring to everyone but me, but I like to stay updated on our lives. :)

New Milestone

Cameron has upgraded to a high chair when we go to restaurants, which is SO FUN, but requires a lot more attention from us! We have a high chair cover and disposable placemats because his first instinct is to chew on the table!

We bring lots of snacks (cheerios, Mum Mums, Pirate Booty, crackers, etc) and have started feeding him some of our meals. We went to a local Mayan/Mexican restaurant that put avocados in everything, which was great for Cam!

notice the cheerio stuck to his hand

throwing it back

look at me sitting with the adults...

Cameron is turning into such a little guy. He's learning so quickly and making me wish time would stand still just for a little bit...

Cameron: 7 Months

Cameron Steven,

I know that I've said this many times before, but I fall more and more in love with you every single day. With every smile, every twinkle in your eye, everytime you touch my face...I just melt. I am still in awe that I created something as sweet, perfect and amazing as you. How did we get so lucky?

Here is an update for your 7 month birthday!

Weight: 17 lbs exactly

Diapers: You are still in size 3 diapers and wearing 2 overnight diapers at night!

Health: You handled your 6 months shots ok, but came down with a terrible cold around the 25th. It started in your eyes, and we thought you had pink eye! It never developed, but it did move down to your noise then eventually your chest. We had a couple of rough nights, but you were pretty much in good spirits!! Your nose was a mess for a few days and it got so soar that we couldn't clean it, but you are almost 100% better, thankfully!

Social: We took our first overnight trip as a family! We went away for LouLou's birthday weekend and stayed at the Samoset Resort. It was hard because we didn't have all your "products" that make our days easier like your exersaucer and high chair. We did bring plenty of toys and your Boppy for sitting on the floor, but we realized how valuable your exersaucer is! You were also sick that weekend, so it wasn't a great combination. However, you did an amazing job considering all of the obstacles we threw at you! We went out to dinner a lot and you just loved to look around at everyone! One restaurant where we ate didn't have high chairs, so you were passed around from lap to lap!

Toys: You are still loving your exersaucer (unless you're tired) and anything you can put in your mouth. Your toys that move, light up or make noise are always by your side, and you have been very fascinated with mirrors lately...they say you won't know it's you for another year or so, but you're definitely intrigued by it!

Sleep: Sleep has been a roller coaster for us this month, bud. With your shots at the beginning of the month then your cold towards the end, it was hard to let you cry when you woke up at night! But, last night we let you cry (more of a whimper) for 30-40 minutes around 1:15, and you eventually went back to sleep until 6! You are napping better at day care and even take a 2 hour nap some days! You are taking 3 naps/day and we usually try to get you to stay awake once you are home from day care so you go down easier. You have also started to become attached when it's time for sleep. You don't like to put yourself to sleep anymore, but you like to have one of us rub your back (we are total suckers for you). The same goes when you wake up in the middle of the night...we try to let you cry, but since we live with Loulou, I usually end up picking you up so we all can get some more sleep...bad habit, but I secretly love it. ;)

Food: You are a eating machine! The ladies at day care always comment how much you eat. :) You have tried most fruits and veggies and have moved onto Cheerios, Pirate Booty, Ohs and bread. We have tried to give you some real food (not pureed) and you aren't a fan of the texture. We will have to work on that because I want to feed you what we are eating! You are drinking out of your sippy cup like a champ (even though half of it ends up on you)!

Personality: You are such a sweet, sweet baby, Cameron!! Daddy and I are always commenting on this wonderful trait you have. Your eyes twinkle when you smile and your squeal just sends us over the moon with love! You are learning to wave and love to be around people, but you don't always love to be held! You are learning to move more and constantly want to be doing something. You are definitely not a chill baby like some of our friends! You get so excited when I drop you off at day care and you see your friends, but you get equally excited when I walk through the door to pick you up. When you hear a familiar voice, you turn your head and body until you can see that person...you sure do know how to make someone feel special, baby boy!

Bath: You still love your baths! We tried to take the infant insert out of your whale tub, but you weren't too sure about it. Then you got sick, so we put it back to normal so you could just relax. I think we will try it again soon, though...we try to give you a bath every night before bed and it's such a great way for you to relax and calm down.

Milestones: You are learning to scoot in circles and are starting to stand on your own when you are holding onto something. You have also learned that you love to fall backwards...I will stand you up, put your hands on your exersaucer and you will look out of the corner of your eye and fall backwards, knowing that you will land on my lap! This makes you let out a huge smile and sometimes a giggle...it's pretty funny! Well, until someone isn't there to catch you! Oh, you had your first boo-boo...you were sitting on the living room floor and I didn't put anything behind/next to you to catch your fall. You toppled over and bit your lip. You were drooling blood for a little and had me a little freaked out! Of course, you were fine, but it still scared the crap out of me! You are a tough little cookie, mister!

Nicknames: Bud, buddy, bug, baby, Cam, Cammie, Mister Man

So much for your monthly stickers!

WE LOVE YOU.

xoxo,

Mom's Birthday Weekend

My mom is not your average mom (or Grandmother) and neither are her birthday celebrations...she turned 49 this year (yes, 4-9...she's young) and decided to escape to the coast of Maine (we live on the coast of Maine, but she headed just a couple of hours north) to do nothing for the week. Although we would have loved to have joined her for the entire week, some people had to work, so we spent the weekend with her.

We left early Saturday morning and took our time driving up Route 1. I've grew up in Maine, but never appreciated it until I was an adult. Now, I love to do all of the touristy things and visit new towns. On our way up, we stopped in Damariscotta for breakfast at Chrissy's and it was so good! One thing we lack in Portland is a great breakfast joint...we have one good "diner" type place and one good "nice" place, but nothing with creative or healthy dishes. Chrissy's had just that, and we loved it!

We got to Rockland around lunchtime and were able to get into our room early, get Cameron situated and get changed for the day!

Cam's essential toys that we brought from home

The view from our condo

View from lunch at The Waterfront (pretty accurate name)!

It was below zero with the windchill and this guy never stopped!

Saturday night, we ended up at Fog for dinner, which was SO GOOD! We didn't have reservations anywhere and it was hard to find a table, but we were so happy that we stumbled upon Fog.

Sunday, we got up and went to breakfast in Camden then drove around some more to check out the beautiful Maine scenery.

Ice fishing huts

My love checking out the frozen lake

Around lunch, we packed up and headed home. Chad had to work, and Cam was ready for his home. ;)

Overall, it was a great weekend. It was so nice to get away and actually spend time together...we live with my mom, so we see her all the time, but we never really get to spend quality time together. Cameron had a cold the whole time, but he wasn't phased by it at all! The only thing that would have made it a little easier is his exersaucer, but we managed without it. ;) It was our first overnight trip with Cam and it went great! But, we were glad to be home on Sunday!

xoxo
